Anna Paquin, a Canadian-New Zealander actress. Paquin was born in Winnipeg, raised in Wellington and made her debut in the role of Flora McGrath when she played the character in The Piano. She won an Academy Award at the age of 11 years old for Best Supporting Actress. If she answered a casting call, she won the role as Flora McGrath, the daughter of an mute Scottish piano player who moves to New Zealand in mid-19th-century to be married. The actress was just nine and had no acting experience. She emigrated in the United States as a teen. Paquin had the role of lead in the film Fly Away Home in 1996 as well as a brief appearance as Jane Eyre in the film when she was only a child. Paquin appeared as Frankie Addams in a 1997 TV movie adaptation of Carson McCullers' novel The Member of the Wedding and also played a part as Queen of Spain in Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997). The actress played teens in the films of Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (2000), A Walk on the Moon (2000) as well as in the role of the polexia Aphrodisa the groupie of Almost Famous (2000).
